We skip from plot point to plot point but have long They can do anything they like without having to pretend to be men, without having to prove themselves in a special way. But with the mysterious ij of his father and brother, it seems the new Lord Crane has inherited an earldom. The mix of sword and sorcery with classic fantasy troupes means that this feels like coming home for me and the characters instantly felt like I could connect with then and as if I was able to sympathise with their struggles.
Although it had some slow flewellkng, this was quite an enjoyable romp and Seregil is definitely a compelling character. This book was no exception. But fortune is as unpredictable as Alec’s new mentor, and this time there just might be And you keep reading shzdows them.
I did like the characters of Seregil and Alec but I completely lost the complicated plot, possibly because it was audio, sadly one cannot skim in audio either. I like Flewelling’s fantasy world for its unusual aspects, including Skala’s matrilineal royal family and gender-blindness of fleweling social contract.
Sexuality is fluid, politics is everything, and outcasts are the tastemakers. Give as a gift.
Most of it is in dialogue form, with Alec acting as our conduit, while Seregil explains the customs and history of the Three Lands.
