The Well of Shades Bridei Chronicles. Like much of Marillier’s work, “The Bridei Chronicles” are rooted in historical fact and many of the principal characters are historical personages. I always wanted to read this book series, but somehow the story about the growing up of a druid’s foster son and the strange little girl he finds one morning on his doorstep did not seem interesting enough to me.

Blade of Fortriu by Juliet Marillier chronjcles 4 stars. Ultimately though, each devoted solely to the other; and as The Shining One would have it, meant to be.

I loved everything but the female protagonist and the “love story. Which is why he does not take it kindly when a little girl is left by the Good Folk on his doorstep and immediately steals the heart of Bridei, who finds her. Also, I have a very hard time with love-at-first-sight nonsense.

I’m glad the next book is not based on him and Tuala, because if I have to read about him one more time, I will scream. His scary past wasn’t so impressive, but he seems like a much more real and feasible person with strong flaws than Drustan, whose only failing seems to come from being scared Ana will hate him if she knows he’s a shapeshifter, when it’s obviously so blinded by love he could have two heads and she probably wouldn’t care. Showing her with his hands, his mouth, his body just what this need had become, a thing that seemed fit to devour him unless it were satisfied.
